concert:nova performs Manuel de Falla's El Amor Brujo chamber ballet in its original, 15-instrument format. The one-act ballet score was later set for full orchestra; you might recognize the Ritual Fire Dance as perhaps the best known music from the work. Premiered in Madrid, the story is set in an Andalusian village where gypsy girl Candelas is haunted by her dead lover. When the latter tries to jinx her romance with another man, Carmelo, the two lovers plan an exorcism. concert:nova will present the original version written for 15 musicians, 3 flamenco dancers and a cantoara.
