10/19/2013, 8:00am: To help safeguard residents' personal information from identity theft, Your BBB and the Hamilton County Coalition to Stop Fraud, Scams & Abuse will partner with WCPO, University of Cincinnati and WMKV radio to host a FREE Shred Day on Saturday, October 19 from 8am - 12pm (or whenever trucks are full). Identity theft is the fastest-growing white collar crime nationwide, and individuals are forced to combat the new and inventive ways that identity thieves steal personal information. Regardless if the identity theft occurs via mail, telephone, online or in person, quite often the best way to prevent the crime is to protect your personal documents and private information. The process at Shred Day is easy: residents are welcome to enter the parking lot, drop off their personal documents to be shredded by a Cintas shredding truck, and quickly exit. Volunteers will be on hand to help lift boxes and carry them to the shredder. There is a five-box limit. The last Shred Day in October 2012 was the most successful yet, with 20 tons of documents shredded for residents!
